When you think of bubble gum it might bring to mind memories of past school days…. 🎒

But chewing gum is still very much around. And not least because it take SOOOO long to decompose! 👎

The reason it sticks around so long (pun intended) is that one of the key ingredients often found in chewing gums is polyvinyl acetate (plastic) a substance that is also used to make adhesives like glue and also plastic bags, bottles and even some paints! Yuck!

And how gross is it to notice chewing gum that has be improperly disposed of and left stuck to public spaces. 🗑️

According to sources, chewing gum contributes to 100,000 tonnes of plastic pollution annually! And its estimated that about 80-90% of chewing gum is NOT properly disposed of…. making it one of the most highly littered items to be found in streets and public places.

Its not only disgusting, but its difficult and expensive to clean up!💷
